Workshop Summary

A little bit of creative fun; showing some creative work from both design and art direction, showing you how to apply literal and lateral thinking, and scamping (we’ll explain what that is if you don’t already know) up your own concepts to give you a taste of the ideation skills rather than artistic skills needed for the advertising and design industry. In the workshop you can expect to do a few adverts and concepts

and/ or get a better idea of process, message and hierachy. Pencils and 90 grammes paper will be provided.

Clayton Sutherland - Biography

Aside from an odd penchant for Snickers bars, etymology and being distracted by bad kerning on menu’s, Clayton has been teaching graphic design and art direction for over 23 years, and has worked at all of the top advertising and design schools in South Africa. He has played an integral role in developing creative programme curriculums at various institutions to develop the field of visual communications at a tertiary level, with a great many of his students going on to win industry awards including Loeries,

AdFocus, the Eagle Awards and Art Directors Club Portfolio Night, whilst still at school. Logo design, packaging design, and conceptual thinking are among his areas of expertise. Curently Clayton lectures at the Red and Yellow School in Cape Town.
